The other kind of self-care

Self-care can be defined as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. That being said, self-care is more than just taking days and practicing positive thinking and actions. Self-care also means taking care of yourself physically.

A way to do this is to pamper yourself. I’m going to share some of my favorite beauty products to use that help me feel confident in my skin that also help me practice self-care.

This article is not just for women, it’s for men too. Men shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed to try different beauty products and spoil themselves too.

First up, my favorite skin moisturizers. A good moisturizer that works well with your skin is important. Moisturizing helps prevent dryness, wrinkles and acne. It also gives life back to you skin to give it a healthy glow.

My favorite day-time moisturizer is Clinique’s Moisture Surge 72-hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. I have been using this moisturizer for years and it has yet to fail me. It is oil and fragrance free and it leaves my skin plump and soft.

Recently, I have started using a different moisturizer before I go to bed. I was given a sample of Clinique’s Smart Night Custom Repair Moisturizer and fell in love with it. It is a cream moisturizer that is oil and fragrance free. The product goes on smoothly and absorbs into your skin. It hydrates and replenishes overnight so when you wake up, your skin looks and feels plump and soft.

To complete the Clinique trifecta, an added face moisturizer that can be used morning and night that I’m sure every college student would benefit from is Clinique’s All About the Eyes under eye cream. I absolutely love this product. It reduces dark circles and puffiness under my eyes and I love that I can use it both in the morning and night because it goes on thin and absorbs into your skin.

Next, my recent haircare favorite: The Tea Tree Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner by Paul Mitchell. The products are infused with lavender, mint and tea tree scents to calm your mind while also giving your hair the moisture it needs. The scent fills the shower and lingers in your hair after it dries, making you feel calm and relaxed.

Finally, it’s all about the lips. Lip scrubs are the perfect way to get dead skin cells off your lips to let the healthy new skin through. They also leave your lips looking plump, so no need for those lip injections. Some can get a bit pricey, but the Tree Hut Sugarlips Lip Scrub is only six dollars and lasts a while depending on how often you use it. I love this scrub because it not only exfoliate your lips, but it also hydrates them. After scrubbing, you can leave the sugar on your lips to lick away or dissolve and your lips will feel soft and smooth as if you just put lip balm on.

My second favorite lip product is Clinique’s Moisture Surge Lip Hydro-Plump Treatment. This is a ChapStick on steroids. You can use it throughout the day as a ChapStick, but I use it at night and in the morning. It’s a thick serum that goes on smooth and leaves your lips hydrated with a glossy look.
